Fire-protection upgrades of structures and infills

Fire-protection upgrades of doors and windows without replacement

Did the fire brigade tell you your doors or windows have to be fire-rated? You don't have to replace them. We upgrade them to the required fire resistance — while keeping their original appearance.

Didn't pass the fire brigade's fire-safety check?

We turn ordinary doors and windows into a certified fire closurewithout a full replacement.

You have doors, but the fire brigade said they should be fire-rated? We add non-combustible materials, a fire strip and sealant around the perimeter, fit a new door frame and certify the element to the required resistance class — and you save on new infills.

When an upgrade pays off most

An upgrade is ideal wherever you want to keep the existing elements, but need to bring them up to the required fire resistance.

  • The fire safety design (PBŘ) newly requires resistance for existing doors or windows
  • Historical and heritage infills that cannot or should not be replaced
  • Renovations where the original appearance of the building is to be kept
  • Wooden windows and doors where it is enough to add non-combustible materials and seals

PVC (plastic) windows cannot be upgraded — they release toxic gases when they burn. The solution is to replace them with a fire-protection window.

Fire-protection upgrade of existing doors with the appearance preserved

From materials that resist fire for a long time

We add non-combustible materials into the structure — on historical doors from the visually unimportant side, so the original appearance is preserved. Around the perimeter of opening elements we apply fire strips and sealants, and in glazed sections we fit glass with high fire resistance. The same materials as in our new wooden fire doors thus protect your existing infills too.

Upgrading the infills

  • Adding non-combustible materials into the structure
  • Intumescent (expanding) strips — in a fire they expand in volume and seal the joint
  • Fire sealants and foam — they prevent smoke and flame from penetrating

Proof and certification

  • Professional survey and assessment of the element
  • A certification label on the finished upgrade
  • Documentation of meeting the required EW/EI class

If an upgrade cannot be carried out, we make an exact replica of the original doors or windows with fire protection — true to the original appearance and materials used. Where a replacement is worthwhile, we also offer new custom fire doors and fire windows.

The process from enquiry to handover

  1. 01

    Consultation and documents

Send us photos of the inside and outside, dimensions, the required fire resistance class and a copy of the fire safety design (PBŘ). The consultation is free.

  2. 02

    Assessment and quote

We assess whether the elements can be upgraded on site, in our workshop, or whether it is better to make an exact replica. We prepare an individual quote.

  3. 03

    Carrying out the upgrade

Minor upgrades we handle directly on site; larger ones we deal with in the workshop after removal, followed by reinstallation and complete documentation.

  4. 04

    Certification and handover

We complete the upgrade, fit a certification label and hand it over with proof of meeting the required fire resistance.

What you gain

Cost savings

In most cases the existing doors can be kept and upgraded — there is no costly replacement with entirely new infills.

Preserved appearance

The upgrade is carried out so that the original appearance is preserved — ideal for heritage buildings and replicas.

Certified resistance

The upgraded elements meet the required EW and EI classes, verified by TZÚS and PAVUS.

A solution even where it is not possible

If an upgrade is not possible, we make an exact replica of the original doors or windows.

"Wooden doors do of course burn eventually — but only after a defined time. EW-30 means 30 minutes, during which people can escape safely."

We guarantee compliance with fire safety

All our products meet the required fire-safety classes and are certified for use in buildings. Our products are verified by the Technical and Test Institute for Construction Prague (TZÚS) and PAVUS, a.s.

  • Fire doors meet EW15 – EW30, EI15 – EI30 with construction parts DP3
  • Fire windows meet EW15 – EW60, EI15 – EI60 with construction parts DP3 DP1
  • Fire walls meet EW15 – EI60 and can be combined from fire doors and windows of various materials

Your most common questions

Can any door or window be upgraded for fire resistance?

We assess this individually. For most wooden doors and windows it is enough to add non-combustible materials, fire strips and sealants. Once you send photos, dimensions and the fire safety design (PBŘ), we will assess free of charge whether the element can be upgraded on site, in the workshop, or whether it is better to make an exact replica.

What fire resistance will the upgrade achieve?

We upgrade the element to the required EW or EI class — for doors usually EW15–EW30 and EI15–EI30 (with DP3 parts), for windows up to EW60 / EI60 — according to the fire safety design (PBŘ) of your building. We fit the finished upgrade with a certification label and proof of meeting the given resistance class, in line with the TZÚS Praha and PAVUS, a.s. certifications.

Will the original appearance of the doors or windows be preserved?

Yes. We carry out the upgrade so that the original appearance is preserved — on historical doors we add non-combustible materials from the visually unimportant side. That is why the upgrade is ideal for heritage buildings, replicas and renovations where the original character of the building is to be kept.

What if the element cannot be upgraded?

If an upgrade cannot be carried out, we make an exact replica of the original doors or windows with fire protection — true to the original appearance and materials used, so it fits the character of the building.
