Upgrading existing doors to fire-resistant
Solve fire resistance by upgrading your doors without making new ones
You do not have to throw away your existing doors. Under certain conditions we simply upgrade them to fire- and smoke-resistant — with their appearance preserved and far cheaper than new.
What is your situation?
Do you recognise yourself in any of these cases?
Whether you are dealing with a renovation, an inspection or manufacturing — upgrading existing doors to fire-resistant usually saves you money and time compared with making new ones.
Renovating and the fire service is requiring fire doors from you?
In 70 % of cases you do not have to replace the original doors — it is enough to upgrade them to fire-resistant. And if that is not possible, we will make you identical ones but with fire protection, even as an exact replica.
Do you have wooden euro-windows and need them fire-resistant?
Wooden euro-windows are no problem to upgrade to fire-resistant windows. For windows that cannot be upgraded, we offer to replace them with new fire-resistant ones.
Are you a door manufacturer and need to produce them as fire-resistant?
Whether you are a large-scale manufacturer or a joiner, we will supply you with everything you need to upgrade your products to fire-resistant and provide the certification. We will sell you our know-how as well as the materials (strips, foams, hardware, sealants). You make, install and sell the doors.
Do you have a joiner who makes your doors and you need some fire-resistant ones?
We will gladly supply the components and oversee production so that you do not have to source fire doors from other companies. We save you time and money, and you can be sure they will all be made the same way.
Do you have fire doors but have lost their "documentation"?
We will inspect your fire doors and verify that they were installed and manufactured correctly. If they meet all the requirements, we will issue you a fire resistance certificate and carry out an operability check. Just get in touch.
Did you fail the fire service inspection on the fire safety of your doors?
Under certain conditions we will simply upgrade your existing doors to fire- and smoke-resistant without replacement. For historical doors we add a non-combustible material and an intumescent strip on the concealed side, certify the doors and make a new door frame (or certify the existing one).
Plastic (PVC) windows cannot be upgraded — they release toxic gases when they burn. There we handle replacement with a new fire-resistant window.
We will gladly discuss the options with you free of charge — just describe what you need.
How we'll do it
Can your doors be upgraded too?
Take photos and send us the details of your existing doors (or windows), the required fire standard and your contact information. We will recommend how the doors can be upgraded in your case — using these three options.
Option 1 — minor upgrades on site
Where the fire safety design (PBŘ) and ČSN standards allow it, we upgrade the doors right at your premises — usually with intumescent strips and by replacing locks. We also prepare the certification and label the doors with fire resistance tags.
What we need from you
- Photos of the doors from the inside and outside, the locks and hinges, the casing or frame-type door frame
- Dimensions — the width and height of the doors including the door frame, the thickness of the doors and door frame
- The required fire resistance, ideally the fire safety design (PBŘ) report
Option 2 — more extensive refurbishment in the workshop
When an on-site upgrade is not enough, you bring the doors to us or send them by courier. In our workshop we carry out the necessary work to meet the required resistance, prepare the documentation and return the doors — you just hang them back on their hinges.
What we need from you
- Photos of the doors from the inside and outside, the locks and hinges, the casing or frame-type door frame
- Additionally a photo of the inner part of the door frame where it meets the wall (after removing the outer visible side)
- Dimensions — the width and height of the doors including the door frame, the thickness of the doors and door frame
- The required fire resistance, ideally the fire safety design (PBŘ) report
Option 3 — replacement with new doors (replica)
If the doors are not suitable for a fire upgrade, we make new ones. We can produce an exact replica of the original doors or a design to your requirements — indistinguishable from the original.
All we need are photos and dimensions of the original doors (or your idea) — we will sort out the rest together.

FAQ
Your most common questions
Can any door be upgraded to fire-resistant?
Under certain conditions we can easily upgrade existing doors to fire- and smoke-resistant without having to replace them or make new ones. We assess suitability based on photographs, dimensions and the required resistance class — in most cases the doors can be kept.
How many doors can be kept without replacement?
Up to 70 % of existing doors can be upgraded to a certified fire-resistant version without costly replacement. We assess the specific option once you send us the details.
Will the original appearance of the doors be preserved?
Yes. We add the fire protection in a way that preserves the original look of the doors and of the whole interior. This is particularly appreciated by owners of historical and heritage-listed buildings. With replicas, it is an exact copy of the original doors.
How is it possible that wooden doors do not burn?
Wooden doors do of course burn, but only after a defined period of time. This time is given by the numerical value in their fire resistance rating. For example, EW-30 = they withstand fire for 30 minutes and only then burn. This allows people to evacuate in good time and keeps the fire out of escape routes, for instance.
How are doors upgraded to fire-resistant?
Fire foam is injected into wooden door frames and fire sealant is used around windows. An intumescent strip is applied around all opening parts, which expands roughly 20–30× in volume during a fire and, together with the sealants, prevents the passage of smoke and fire.
Do you also service fire doors?
Yes, we service and refurbish fire doors — replacing hardware, locks, door closers and fire seals so that the doors keep performing their function over the long term.
What do the designations EW, EI, DP and others mean?
DP1 – products that do not release heat during a fire. DP3 – products that do release heat during a fire. EW – products that limit fire for a certain time (EW15 = 15 minutes). EI – products that resist fire and are tight against smoke penetration. SC – smoke-tight products with automatic door closing.
